Sadia Prema, a successful and determined 37-year-old sales professional from Phoenix, AZ, was up for a promotion on April 25, 2017, when she was struck by a distracted driver on her way to meet a client. Sadia was in a coma for more than two weeks and experienced amnesia for nearly two months afterward, undergoing 26 more surgeries to repair her broken body. After just two and a half months of specialized rehabilitation at Craig, Sadia went home to Arizona and returned to work where she continues to excel and was named one of the top five sales representatives at her company nationwide.

In those first weeks of intensive care in Arizona, Sadia's physicians knew that she would need specialized treatment for her brain injury and began the search for the right rehabilitation center for her. Less than a month after her injury, Sadia began her rehab at Craig Hospital. "Sadia survived against a lot of odds, so we wanted to bring her here to give her the very best chance for her to heal and recover from her TBI," says Craig's Dr. Alan Weintraub, M.D.

Sadia worked with physicians and therapists to restore her memory and brain function, and after two months at Craig, she woke up one day and recognized her family, including her 7-year-old son. "After he hugged me, I knew I had to get better for him," Sadia says. Sadia continued with her rehabilitation, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to help her re-learn how to form sentences.
